Attending pathologists provide general laboratory coverage when on call and spend much of their regular working time focused on clinical activities in one or a few of the laboratory's several sections. Consequently, the need to take steps to ensure that they stay up to date on new technology, science, and in-house testing across all laboratory disciplines, both anatomic and clinical, and they also need a forum in which to discuss issues that affect many or all laboratory sections in common.
