Description:
This CE will explore the lived experiences of parents and caregivers who support children, youth, and adults with neurodevelopmental conditions. Families will share their journeys, including their successes and challenges, as they navigate systems of care for loved ones with varying levels of support needs. Panelists will also discuss solutions to common challenges and offer suggestions to help other parents build effective advocacy skills to support their family members.
Target audience: This activity has been designed for primary care physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, psychiatrists, neurologists, psychologists, social workers, OT's, PT's, SLPs, BCBAs/LBAs, education providers, and school-support staff, as well as family and self-advocates who are involved in transitions for neurodiverse individuals.
Learners' Outcome: Learners will self-report an increase in knowledge about the lived experiences of families caring for individuals with neurodevelopmental conditions and the systems they must navigate (IEP, OPWDD, benefits).
