Description: This series is designed to train providers in opioid prescribing best practices through 6 enduring online modules. These modules satisfy the 3-hour requirement in Opioid Safe Prescribing Practices by IDFPR to renew Controlled Substances Registration in Illinois.

In Module 1, Dr. Arwen Podesta will present some practical tools for providers and staff to help patients that struggle with the intersection of chronic pain and addiction. It is a challenging population to treat successfully, and as an integrative psychiatrist, Dr. Podesta will also touch on some tangible pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatments.

Objectives: At the conclusion, learners will be able to:
  1. Differentiate opioid dependence and opioid use disorder (OUD)/addiction.
  2. Explain the use of digital therapeutics as a supplement to treat substance use and OUD.
  3. List buprenorphine products indicated for OUD/addiction and for pain.
