The 6 online modules in this series, each 30 minutes long, together meet the CME requirement for 3 hours of safe opioid prescribing for medical providers and pharmacists. This first session looks at pain from a myriad of angles - its meaning and impact on patients, providers, and society as a whole - as well as tools and directions for assessment.

Objectives:
At the conclusion, learners will be able to:
- Discuss the need for comprehensive pain education
- Define the types of physiologic mechanisms of pain
- Outline comprehensive and holistic assessment and screening approaches for patients with pain
